Festival de Puccini
Torre del Lago (más o menos 15 Km desde la Residencia) Julio/Agosto en el maravilloso marco del lago de Massacciuccoli cada año ocurre el famoso festival dedicado a Giacomo Puccini.

La Versiliana
Julio/Agosto en Marina de Pietrasanta (más o menos 25 Km de Lucca) exposiciones, encuentros, debates con los más importantes partidarios de la cultura y del espectáculo. Además se puede tomar parte a conciertos y representaciones varias.

Ocurre cada cuarto fin de semana del mes en la "Piazza San Giusto" (40 m de la Residencia).

(From Wikipedia) Lucca was born as a Estruscan or Ligurian settlement, it developed as a roman town, during the Vi century Lucca is a Longobardo dukedom, then it becomed a Medieval Commune and as a Independent Republic during XII century. Lucca became famous for its bankers and textile trades, even if the previous and frequent fights between Guelphs and Ghibellines caused the conquest of Lucca by the lordship of the Della Scala's from Verona, the warms between Lucca and Pisa and Lucca and Florence. Lucca remained an independent republic until 1799 when the Lucca  Senate gave Elisa Bonaparte and her husband Felice Baciocchi the Principality of Lucca and Piombino, on June 1805. On May 10th 1815, Lucca became a dukedom whose Maria Luisa di Borbone  was the fist oligarch and Carlo Ludovico Di Borbone the second oligarch. In 1847 Lucca became a part of theTuscan Grand ducky and afterwards became a part of the Sardinia reign. Recently,  on November 24 th 2006 Lucca hosted the bilateral Italy-France Summit.

Lucca old walls

It took  more than 100 years  (1544-1650) and 60.000 bricks to have all the marvellous walls of Lucca completed. These walls had been restored during the 19th century. They represent indeed one of the most symbolic and important  oevre that Lucca could offer all its visitors. Living in Lucca

Lucca is a very charming town. Its tiny streets with their bricks which  bring you back to past times, its city centre avenues where everyday life takes place, its fascinating  buildings you can find while walking and visiting the town, with its melting pot of gothic and renaissance styles, and its noble towers which bring us back to past times. If you would like to go shopping, you will realize that is a very old place, where you can taste all Lucca traditional soupes, sweets, second courses which have been prepared according to past times and having  a very good breakfast in a traditional bar or patisserie or jus having fun. Having a nice stroll through the town, where you can find  other new plasures, such as entering a traditional food shop which opened 100 years ago and tasting all traditional chesees,oils, wines and other delicacies from Lucca.

Antique markets and crafts in Lucca

Each third week-end of every month, inside the tiny streets such as  via del Gallo where the Antica residenza del Gallo is located, the antique market occurs. If you wuld like to have a nice strolling through this market, you can find lots of  antique objects (such as marble statues, lots of crystal glasses and old chandeliers). It is a pleasure to have a look to all these lights, colours, strange things you can find inside this market.  there are lots of visitors coming from the different towns of Italy. Each forth week-end of every month, inside the same tiny streets where also the antique market occurs, the so called  "arti e mestieri sul mercato"  market takes places . This is another version of the antique market. Another time, all the tiny streets of the ciy centre of Lucca become a bazar,  with lots of stands which can offer so many interesting local antique objects.
